I have traveled quite a bit in my lifetime thanks to my parents and my school's educational opportunities. But, now that I am married and I no longer have my parents to help me afford vacations or my school to give me unique opportunities, I have realized that it is up to me and my husband to decide when and where we want to go.
First, please know that when I talk about traveling in this blog, I mean traveling for fun. Not for business, not for family, but for your own enjoyment.
What I have found through the years is that a large majority of people would say that one of their hobbies or passions is traveling. Most of the people who fit in this category have been out of the country or have taken quite a few vacations in their lifetime. But, I would also assume that if asked most of these people would say that they do not feel like they've maximized their traveling as much as they would like to. Why do people not travel as much as they would like to? The following is a list of reasons why I believe people don't travel as much as they would like to:
Reasons why people don't travel as much as they would like to:
1. It costs to much (This is probably the biggest reason, especially the way that the economy is now. You not only have to think about the expenses you accrue from traveling, but also the ones you deduct from not working and that can add up. But, I think the reason why this is such a huge issue is because of the priority in which you put traveling. If there are many other things you'd like to purchase and they are more important than traveling, then you will end up never getting to travel because it will never be a priority in your budget.)
2. You can't take the time off work (A lot of people find that they can't take time off work and this could be because they don't have hours accrued or because there is too much work that they would miss if they did choose to leave. I would like to suggest here that most people who aren't satisfied with the amount of traveling they are doing probably aren't thinking of taking one day off work or zero days and just doing a weekend trip)
3. Research is time-consuming (If you are like most people you don't enjoy looking through countless hotels, activities, flights, etc to figure out what you might want to do, where you would want to stay, and how you would get there. It doesn't seem worth the time to you to spend all that time looking when you probably won't end up getting to go anyways.)
4. You don't know where you would go (let's say you could take the time off work, and you did have some money, but some of us have trouble deciding where to go because there are WAY too many places to travel in our world! It's seems like a daunting and overwhelming task to decide where you might want to go, and you don't even know where to begin!)
5. You enjoy being at the travel destination, but traveling to or from is what keeps you from actually going (A lot of people may have horror stories from traveling, and most people that have taken a few flights in their lifetime probably have at least one story. This may be keeping you from going to where you want to go.)
6. You are afraid of going to new places (This could be the case for quite a few people, it is scary to go outside you comfort zone and experience something new. But, it shouldn't keep you from doing what you love.)
7. You're not in a good place or time in your life to leave (This is where I think most people identify with. There are countless reasons why traveling may not be a good thing right now: maybe you have kids, pregnant, maybe your career is just beginning, you just lost your job, your health is declining, etc. These reasons are endless and each person has their own depending on their situation. But, just know that there will probably never be a "good time". Ask yourself, "if not now, when?")
8. Not having a companion to travel with (This is not one that I initially thought of, but thanks to my best friend I realize that this is probably a very common reason why people choose not to travel. Part of the fun of traveling is having someone to share it with, and all the fears of traveling would easily be amplified if traveling by oneself.)
I wouldn't be surprised if there are a lot more reasons why people don't travel as much as they would like to and I would love to know what some of those reasons are, so please feel free to share!
I will be addressing each of these issues in future blogs, so look for more to come!

Charleston, South Carolina
Welcome to Charleston, South Carolina! Below is a map of Charleston. We decided to stay in Mt. Pleasant this weekend for several reasons: first of all there were quite a few hotel options really close together and that enabled us to get a good deal. Secondly we were just a short drive away from downtown Charleston and more centrally located to view both downtown and North Charleston.
Since we were staying in Mt. Pleasant this weekend and Charleston is not actually connected by land to Mt. Pleasant we actually got to drive over this really cool bridge every time we wanted to venture into Charleston! Below is a couple pictures of the bridge :)

The first adventure we took while in Charleston was a trip down to Battery Park or what is also known as White Point Gardens. It is a beautiful park full of trees that borders the edge of Downtown Charleston and the Atlantic Ocean. This park also has quite a bit of historical significance. The following are several pictures taken while we were there.
This is an old beautiful town full of beautiful brick houses, rich with trees and history, and the perfect place for young and old to venture out for an afternoon of fun! The following are several of the pictures we took while touring the town!
The above picture is of the Charleston City Market that stretches down the middle of Market street for 3 blocks and inside contains hundreds of vendors selling everything from homemade items, snacks, souvenirs, and I think you get the picture :) We spent quite a bit of time enjoying the various vendors while we were here!
We also visited Fort Sumter! Fort Sumter is an extremely small island that contains the fort where the Civil War began when the Confederate Army attacked the Union Army.
We had a wonderful time visiting Charleston and I'm sure it will not be the last time that we journey here! We are thoroughly enjoying all of the places we have been visiting and we are looking forward to many more!

Our first Valentine's Day
I don't know about you, but Josh and I HATE going out to eat on or around Valentines Day. Don't get me wrong, I love going out to eat. Not only do you not have to spend time cooking, but you also don't have to worry about doing the dishes! So we typically go out and celebrate the weekend before or after Valentines day. With all of that said, we decided to try out our new fondue pot for the first time for Valentines Day. Here are some pictures of the table, I spent quite a bit of time decorating it!

Myrtle Beach Weekend
This weekend we decided to cruise down to Myrtle Beach! It's only 2.5 hours away from us and we were eager to visit this extremely well-known and famous place. We got an awesome deal on our hotel due to January being their slowest time of the month! We woke up the first morning to this beautiful sunrise out of our balcony window!
We got to ride on this ski-lift over the river to get to the golf course! AWESOME! Here are some of our pictures from golfing that day:
Our hotel also included two free hours of BOWLING! The bowling alley is located on the 6th floor of their hotel. What an awesome idea...to build a bowling alley in a hotel! We thoroughly enjoyed playing and I learned how to bowl with my left hand!!! A trip to Myrtle Beach would not be complete without a walk on the beach. The following are several pictures from our walk.
Our hotel gave us a free breakfast - and this was not the normal complimentary breakfast that you would assume. Josh ordered the breakfast sampler which included sausage, bacon, eggs, grits, a pancake, potatoes, biscuits and gravy and fruit. Our drinks were included in the free breakfast as well! We were extremely impressed with the food and the service! Our waitress was extremely on top of her game! So, of course the very first thing we decided to do while we were here is golf! Myrtle is widely known in the golfing community as having THE best courses. I was wondering how they would be during the slow, winter season. The course we chose started off by impressing us before we even began playing!

It turned out to be such a beautiful day at the beach! :)
First touch in the Atlantic Ocean since our move!
The rest of our trip included a wonderful massage, some shopping, more bowling, and another walk on the beach! We had a wonderful time enjoying this area off-season. We are looking forward to visiting again - perhaps when it is a bit more crowded and when more things are open. Here are a few more picutres from our trip that are worth posting!
Seriously?!?
I can't believe I live near Alligators!!!
This was an awesome shopping center that had bridges connecting the various stores
Our trip to Myrtle Beach could not be complete without a trip to Outdoor World
Our second morning with another beautiful sunrise!!!
LOVE.LOVE.LOVE.
