Adventures in Raleigh

Our first full weekend in North Carolina prompted a day trip to Raleigh - the state capital. I am learning a lot about the history and geography (Josh is thoroughly enjoying teaching me).

Today consisted of:
 - Seeing the Capital
 - Visiting 2 museums
 - Exploring a farmers market
 - walking around downtown
 - enjoying dinner at a new resturant
 - finding a mall that reminded us much of SoCal

This brick building is a good example of what most of downtown looks like. There are definitely modern looking buildings scattered throughout the city, but this picture should give you a good idea of what it looked like. Today was very cold, windy, and clear.

This is the museum of Natural Sciences - the best part is that this museum was free! :) This museum had awesome pictures, models, and live animals. (Sadly we were not as impressed as we might have been if we had not just visited the Georgia Museum only a week prior).

Here we have the state capital and the beautiful mall is currently full of empty trees and brown plants, but if we return again in the summer, I can't even imagine how beautiful this must look.

We visited the museum of Natural History that also had a segment focused mainly on North Carolina's history. And wandering around the city lead us to what they call City Market - where they have daily farmer's markets, due to the time of day we only managed to find two vendors left, but we purchased a handful of fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables as well as some local strawberry jelly!

We have had some beautiful sunsets during our move out as well as while we've been living out here. It is extremely nice to watch some beautiful sunsets all the way on the East Coast.

We ate dinner at this place called the Twisted Fork, adjacent from the mall. This restaurant reminded us a little bit of Claim Jumper due to both the large entrees as well as the enormous desserts (that also cost a lot too!) We enjoyed a French Dip and a Seafood Pasta dish as well as some rootbeer on tap. We also ventured into the mall and felt very much like we were in the Fashion Valley Mall in Orange County.

Overall it was a wonderful day and we are eagerly looking forward to many more adventures!
